What is Sarcoma?

Sarcomas are a rare group of cancerous tumors (malignant) that are divided into two main groups, bone sarcomas and soft tissue sarcomas.  It is a rare cancer, only 1% of adult cancers in the U.S. are sarcomas and approximately 15% of childhood cancers are sarcomas.  There is no clear cause of sarcomas. Treatment includes surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy and targeted drug therapy.  Although rare, there are approximately 15,000 new cases of sarcoma diagnosed each year in the U.S.
